Craniosacral Therapy

What Is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle hands-on therapy which works with the body's fascia. Fascia surrounds every tissue in the body.

Tight areas or 'kinks' can occur in the fascia in response to strong emotions or physical trauma. These kinks disturb energy flow in that tissue which affects function. Dys-function can become dis-ease.

During a session, the therapist and client together, 'tune in' to the clients body and facilitate release of stored emotional or structural trauma. This allows the tissues to loosen and the 'kinks' to unwind and normal craniosacral rhythm returns to the area. Normal rhythm indicates a return of function which is usually long lasting.

What Is Somatoemotional Release?
Another aspect of craniosacral therapy is facilitating the body to release trapped emotions which are sometimes "kinks". We now know that memory of a trauma is not just in an area of the brain but is also stored in the affected tissue. eg. the neck in the case of whiplash. This is called tissue memory. During a craniosacral therapy session, as tissue is "unwinding" tissue memory may be triggered and the emotion associated with the situation is released. The block is freed. Energy flows and the body can now get on with healing itself.
